IRA Investments in Privately Held Real Estate

In addition to stocks and bonds, a self-directed IRA may invest in a variety of private investments including real estate, art and collectibles and gold coins. Because most IRA Custodians are stock brokerage companies, only offering publicly traded investments, they will only propose publicly traded investments — they will not propose that you, the investor, invest your IRA in privately held investments such as real estate.

There are however some companies that do focus on providing custodial services. These companies charge fees to maintain a custodial account, and allow you to direct your investment into anything you choose, as long as it is allowed by IRS rules.

This includes investment in real estate limited partnerships such as those managed by American Life Inc.

IRA advantage: Tax deferral

The key advantage to using your IRA to purchase an American Life Inc. investment is that income in an IRA accrues without payment of taxes, until it is time to draw money from the IRA. Thus, IRAs are best suited to investments that yield regular income. Along with dividend-paying stocks and interest paying bonds, investment real estate is an ideal IRA investment.

Retirement money

As the name suggests, Individual Retirement Accounts are designed to enable long term savings and investing. The money is to be drawn down, upon one's retirement according to the IRS rules. American Life Inc.'s income producing real estate provides a safe and reliable retirement income stream.
