Southern California (SoCal) is the second-largest urbanized region in the United States. It consists of a heavily developed urban environment, along with vast arid areas that have been left undeveloped. Classified as a megaregion, the large urban areas include greater Los Angeles, greater San Diego, and the Inland Empire (county area around Riverside and San Bernardino). American Life manages 3 regional centers in Southern California, covering 5 major counties that includes Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego.

Geography

To the west of Southern California lies the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands; to the south is the international border between the United States and Mexico.

Demographics

Within its boundaries are two major world cities, Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as three of the country's largest metropolitan areas. San Diego is the second most populous city in California, and the eighth most populous in the U.S. Just to the north, Los Angeles is the most populous city in California, and the second most populous in the country.
Compared to the rest of the country, Los Angeles's cost of living is 44.40% higher than the U.S. average.

Economy

The economy of Los Angeles is driven by international trade, entertainment (television, motion pictures, video games, recorded music), aerospace, technology, petroleum, fashion, apparel, and tourism. Los Angeles is also the largest manufacturing center in the western United States.
